Problem solving and product design through
real-world challenges, teamwork, and imaginative thinking

Design Thinking for Kids Class
Have you ever heard your child say, "I wish there was a better way to do this!"
In Design Thinking for Kids, we show them how to turn those ideas into action.
This hands-on class introduces children to the creative problem-solving method used by inventors, engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs. Through real-life challenges, group collaboration, and imaginative exploration, students will learn how to observe problems, understand the needs of others, generate ideas, build prototypes, and improve their solutions - just like real innovators.

What Kids Will Learn
+ The 5 stages of Design Thinking: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test
+ How to tackle everyday problems with a creative and open-minded approach
+ The basics of product development: from identifying a need to creating a useful solution
+ How to present ideas clearly and receive constructive feedback
+ Inspiration to explore entrepreneurship and turn ideas into impact

What Class Looks Like
Each week, students will explore a new design challenge - ranging from solving community problems to reimagining common products. They'll sketch, brainstorm, build with everyday materials, and even pitch their ideas in a final showcase.
Each semester, students will tackle a series of design challenges ranging from solving community problems to redesigning common products. They will sketch, brainstorm, build with everyday materials, and even present their ideas in a final presentation.
We start with several two-hour projects at the beginning of the term to learn about the design thinking process. From the middle of the semester onwards, longer projects follow, which extend over several weeks. The class is designed to allow for later or only temporary participation.
This class builds critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence in a supportive, exploratory environment—where no idea is too big or small.

Where Design Thinking Comes From?
Design Thinking has its roots in the world of innovation and product design. It was pioneered by the creative minds around David Kelley at IDEO, a California based design company that helped shape some of the most iconic products of our time - like the first Apple computer mouse and early versions of the iMac.
In the 1990s, IDEO began formalizing their process for solving complex problems: understand the user, explore ideas, build rough prototypes, and test again and again. This open-minded and human-centered approach became known as Design Thinking—and it has since been adopted by leading companies, universities, and schools around the world.
Today, Design Thinking is more than just a product development tool. It’s a mindset that helps people of all ages turn challenges into creative solutions.
